The New York Times, October 8, 2009 reported, "The dropout rate is driving the nations increasing prison population, and it's also a drag on America's economic competitiveness."
On any given day, one in 10 young male high school dropouts is in jail or juvenile detention. These dropouts become low-skilled workers and the demand for low-skilled workers is plunging! It is essential for us to find ways to motivate students to stay in school.
